Interested in becoming a Dolphin Marine Magic volunteer?
Dolphin Marine Magic - Pet Porpoise Pool Pty Ltd is pleased to offer volunteer opportunities to individuals who wish to gain experience working with animals and who share our passion for conservation of animals, particularly marine mammals and their environment.
We offer 3 types of volunteer placements. They are:
- Work Experience Programme - Open to school or TAFE students. These students undertake a block or full time work at the PPP, usually for a period of 1 week.
- Volunteer Programme - Open to people from 16 years of age currently working or studying in the animal care industry and wishing to gain practical experience. Placements can vary from blocks of 1 week to 1 day per week for a period of up to 3 months.
- Internships - Open to university students both from Australia and overseas, needing work placement as part of their course, usually for a block of 3 – 6 weeks. There is a minimum requirement of 7 days work placement.
Dolphin Marine Magic has been open for over 40 years now and provides a unique and extremely interactive animal experience for our guests. We believe that by doing this, we are encouraging out visitors to share our passion for the conservation of the world’s marine mammals and their environment.
We have 2 show times a day 3 in the busy summer school holidays December 26 th to mid January – 10am and 1pm, before each of these shows guests are able to receive both a seal and dolphin kiss and feed a fish to one of our seals. The show consists of 3 seal segments and 2 dolphin segments, after the show concludes guests are then able to pat the dolphins. Following this we have the reef tank feeding and then lastly the Little Penguin feeding which all the guests can participate in. During other times of the day guests are free to pat and play with our dolphins.
Successful applicants will commence with “hands on” experience working in various areas of an animal park and will include duties such as: cleaning enclosures, assisting with food prep, assisting in crowd control and helping guests in show participation, assisting in reef tank and Little penguin feeding, assisting in feeding animals, cleaning of food buckets and fish kitchen, etc. The working day is usually 7.30am to 4.00pm with a one hour lunch.
Due to a high demand for participation in our volunteer and work experience programmes and the limited places in each, persons wishing to take part in the programmes are requested to apply in writing, stating why they wish to participate in the programme and what they believe they can offer the Pet Porpoise Pool. Potential volunteers need to state the dates they wish to work but be aware that booking is usually required up to 6 months in advance, sometimes longer.
