Cetaceans   Pinnipeds   Marine Turtles   Animal Rehabilitation Hospital

Over the years, Dolphin Marine Magic is has assisted in the rescue, rehabilitation or release of a vatirty of cetacean species including Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursipos aduncus), Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursipos truncatus gillii), Risso's Dolphins (Grampus griseus), Melon Headed Whales (Peponocephala electra), Pygmy Spearm Whales (Kogia breviceps) and even a Minke Whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata).

At present, quarantine restrictions and lack of facilities prevents Dolphin Marine Magic from rehabilitating cetaceans long term onsite however staff still regularly attend standings with National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) officers and assist in the rescue and release of animals. It is important to note that under the MOU developed with NPSW, staff from Dolphin Marine Magic are not allowed to intervene or take action other than immediate first aid without prior authorisation from NPSW staff.

Some of the cases attended by Dolphin Marine Magic in recent years include a stranded Rissos Dolphin on Park Beach, Coffs Harbour, two separate Pygmy Sperm Whale strandings north of Coffs Harbour, three Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins stranded in the Hastings River and an Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin calf at Scott’s Head that was released back into the ocean after it’s pod was spotted swimming nearby rescuers in the waves.
